\u2022 The organization representing the region\u2019s development banks celebrated its anniversary by proposing new lines of coordinated action by the banking sector.<\/p>\n
January 21, 2020.-\u00a0<\/strong>The Latin American Association of Development Financing Institutions (ALIDE) celebrated its 52nd anniversary on January 24th by putting forward new lines of coordinated action for the region.<\/p>\n Specifically speaking, the organization representing the development banks of Latin America and the Caribbean seeks to enhance its efforts to strengthen the impact of the banking sector on reaching the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and its presence and cooperation with Caribbean development finance institutions, thereby contributing to the interregional relationship.<\/p>\n \u201cWe want to move ahead in making ALIDE a venue where all Latin American and Caribbean banks can come together. In keeping with this, one of the principal lines of strategic action is to favor closer relations with the Caribbean development financing institutions,\u201d stated Carlos Linares, President of the Association at the ceremony celebrating ALIDE\u2019s anniversary.<\/p>\n \u201cWe must continue to work on matters that are important to our member institutions and to incorporate issues connected with the SDG among our activities,\u201d added the also President of Corporaci\u00f3n Financiera de Desarrollo (Cofide) of Peru.<\/p>\n Among other specific functions, ALIDE fosters cooperation among its member institutions \u2013mainly development banks, but also guarantee funds, savings banks, and international financial organizations, etc.\u2013 , by strengthening relations through a variety of services like international meetings, missions to extra-regional countries, technical assistance, training, studies and research, and knowledge dissemination.<\/p>\n For that reason, creating links with institutions in other regions of the world, regional and multilateral international organizations and agencies for cooperation has been a priority throughout its history. Today, in addition to its activities in Latin America and the Caribbean, ALIDE has member institutions in Europe, Asia and North America.<\/p>\n \u201cWe contribute to the economic development and social welfare of the region through our efforts to strengthen, and the success of, the programs of our member institutions.
