Description: The mandate of the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services (MCDSS) based on the Government Gazette Notice No. 836 of 2016 is to implement various Basic Social Protection Programmes (BSPP) aimed at protecting, promoting and assisting the poor and vulnerable in society. Programmes implemented by the Department of Community Development promote the livelihoods of poor people by providing livelihoods skills and the seed capital in form of grants or micro-capital and farm inputs This initiative aligns with Ministry’s approach to support the women smallholder farmers to build rebuild resilience, strengthen de-risking and improve sustainability in mitigating the effects of climate change that can destroy crops through floods or drought. Climate change is real and should be taken seriously by all stakeholders who are ready to improve the livelihoods of the communities. The Ministry recognizes the need and has supported the mobilization of women smallholder farmers through close interaction with other women smallholder farmer leaders to raise awareness of the benefits of agricultural insurance.
