WFDFI joins 8th World Congress on Rural and Agricultural Finance

  • WFDFI and ALIDE Secretary General, Edgardo Alvarez, served as moderator in the session on mechanisms for resilient agrifood systems and participated in the side event on the potential of public development banks for green and inclusive food systems.

 

October, 2025 – The World Federation of Development Finance Institutions (WFDFI) actively participated in the 8th World Congress on Rural and Agricultural Finance, a global event held in Mombasa, Kenya, that gathered financial institutions, policymakers, and international organizations committed to strengthening financing for rural and agricultural development.

WFDFI Secretary General Edgardo Alvarez moderated Business Session 3: “Support Mechanisms for Building Resilient Agrifood Systems in Latin America,” a space for exchange that showcased financial and technical support mechanisms designed to promote sustainable and resilient agrifood systems in Latin America and the Caribbean.

During the panel, experts discussed topics such as innovative financing models, financial inclusion, small-scale agriculture, sustainability, and climate change adaptation. The presentations highlighted experiences and best practices aimed at strengthening rural financial systems and mobilizing sustainable investments for agricultural development.

Participation in the Side Event on Public Development Banks

In addition, Alvarez took part in the side event “Unlocking the Potential of Public Development Banks for Green and Inclusive Food Systems,” representing the Latin American Association of Development Financing Institutions (ALIDE), alongside representatives of regional public development banks and a bilateral development bank.

The session provided an opportunity to share perspectives on the role of Public Development Banks (PDBs) in financing green, inclusive, and sustainable food systems, as well as to explore opportunities for international collaboration to mobilize investment for the global transformation of agrifood systems.

Through its participation, WFDFI reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening knowledge exchange and international cooperation among development finance institutions worldwide, promoting a joint agenda in support of sustainable and inclusive finance.
