Description:

This study analyzes the challenges and opportunities facing development finance institutions (DFIs) in Latin America and the Caribbean amid a rapidly changing and uncertain global environment. As countries and institutions must constantly adapt, DFIs play a strategic role in promoting sustainable development. Between May 2023 and May 2024, ALIDE conducted two surveys to gather insights from its members. The first survey explored the general outlook and expectations of DFIs, aiming to identify key challenges, capacity needs, and recommendations for improving their impact. The second, in collaboration with the European Investment Bank, FICS, and NAFIN, focused on institutional and regional priorities. This two-phase approach generated a comprehensive diagnosis of the current landscape, informing both ALIDE and FICS agendas. The findings provide valuable inputs for the study on climate finance and highlight how DFIs can better contribute to climate transition, economic growth, and social development across the region, while also identifying new sectors and strategic areas of focus.
