African Economic Outlook 2021

The 2021 edition of the African Economic Outlook focuses on debt resolution, governance, and growth in Africa. Chapter 1 examines Africa’s growth performance and outlook amid the Covid–19 pandemic. It starts by emphasizing on policy options to mitigate the effects of the pandemic in the short, medium, and long terms. It also explores the causes and consequences of Africa’s debt dynamics by showing how the changing structure and composition of debt create vulnerabilities.
Crop Receipts: A New Financial Instrument for Africa

This report (i) provides background and purpose for the proposed African Crop Receipts Initiative; (ii) analyses the international experiences with crop receipts (CRs); (iii) discusses generic entry points for CRs in Africa; (iv) present specific opportunities for CRs in Zambia and Uganda; and (v) presents the study’s main findings and offers recommendations.
Linking Climate Change Financing to Sustainability: Implications for Agriculture

In the context of Development Finance Institutions’ (DFIs) efforts to mobilise private sector capital in support of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement, this document explore the progress to date from the perspective of private sector banks and focus, among others, on how banks choose to align their operations with the SDGs and the nature of the relationship that banks have with DFIs.
