Year: 2020
Content-Type: Report
Description: In as much as micro, small and medium enterprises account for 99.5% of the businesses in the Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) region and 60% of the formal jobs in the production sector, they should be extremely important to the governments and for the public policies that need implementing, particularly in the current context of the crisis unleashed by COVID-19 that threatens the very survival of a large number of the SMEs. Development finance institutions, as public financing policy instruments, act in keeping with government provisions in helping countries to mitigate the crisis by making resources available to the production and social sectors, and especially to SMEs that have experienced heavy losses in income and major problems in keeping up activities and complying with wage and financial obligations.
